Wild Nothing - Live in Dreams

Brilliant album. Highly recommend. Fans of Beach Fossils and DIIV would dig…

Hop Along - Tibetan Pop Stars

Absolutely fixated on Hop Along as of late. ‘Get Disowned’ is a fantastic record. Strong from start to finish. Evocative song-writing. Wonderfully complementary and guitar-thrashing instrumentation. Perfectly imperfect vocals.

Fans of Joy Formidable will love Hop Along.

It’s an album that commands an immediate visceral reaction. Just brilliant all around. Highly, highly recommend it!

This. Song. Destroys. Me.

Ladyhawke - Sunday Drive - Anxiety (2012)

From one of my favorite albums of 2012.

Anxiety is flat out fantastic.

Previous post: There’s no let down in Anxiety. Brilliant in every way, it’s an undulating journey, from song to song, that combines to form a hypnotic and highly addictive record. From heavy guitar beats to ’80s pop mastery to rich ballads to guitar riffing madness, the more I listen to it the more I can’t get enough of it — the true test of a great album.

Fans of indie-rock and ’80s, pop/dance music will instantly fall in love with this offering. It’s a must get and I can’t recommend it more highly.

Ladyhawke.

Tanlines - Nonesuch - Mixed Emotions (2012)

This. Song.

So flipping good.

Tanlines put out one of my favorite releases of 2012. A solid album from front to back. Just fantastic.

“Does part of you want to say
There’s a part of me over you?
No matter how long it’ll take
No more leaving without you
So say what you want to say
But there’s nowhere to run to
Part of me wants to say
There’s a part of me over you…”

A Fine Frenzy - Sailingsong - Pines (2012)

Love this song. Enough said.

Listened to this latest album from A Fine Frenzy for the better part of this past week.

Another fantastic release. Alison Sudol has done it again!

I highly recommend checking it out.

Sunday Souvenirs
Two Gallants
The Bloom and the Blight

Two Gallants - Sunday Souvenirs - The Bloom and the Blight (2012)

This album for the better part of this quiet Sunday.

The album dropped in early September (2012) and this is my first time listening to it. I mean REALLY listening to it. I’ve nonchalantly played it a few times before…

Some words. Exceptional, thought provoking, poignant songwriting. Wonderfully unique vocals and harmonies. And, of course, that all too familiar and spectacular Two Gallants sound.

It all adds up to an impressive and eclectic album of folk and rock ballads, melodic marvels and guitar pounding gems.

I can’t recommend the album more highly.

I bought this CD because of you, Danny, and I don’t even know how many times I’ve listened to it. So many that my kids are sick of it. At first they listened to it a lot, too. Totally ADORE it!! The depth of the sound is stunning.

Oh?! That. Is. Awesome! It really is a spectacular album. I’m glad you enjoy it as much as I do, Mama.

Bright Moments - Drifters - Natives (2012)

A favorite album this year. Love this tune.

It’s a beaut…

From a previous post:

One part Beirut + One part Arcade Fire + One part LCD Soundsystem = Bright Moments

No joke! That diverse of a sound and that flipping good! But it’s no coincidence, Bright Moments is Kelly Pratt, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist for Beirut, multi-instrumentalist for Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible album and he contributed horns to LCD Soundsytsem (plus other affiliations and contributions).

The amazing thing is that Pratt, somehow, brilliantly brings together the diverse sounds of these three bands into one fantastic album. There’s the semi-discordant vocals and Balkan diversity of instrumentation that is Beirut, the layering of vocal harmonies and orchestral instrumentation of Arcade Fire and, amazingly enough, the dance beat, the post-punk feel and the braggadocio of LCD Soundsystem. Stir in Pratt’s sometimes nasally and always distinct high-pitched or hushed vocals and it’s the recipe for “Natives” — a debut album that’s at once familiar and unique and quite brilliant.

Once in a blue moon an artist and album hits me like a ton of bricks. Such is the case… Upon first listen, I’ve had a visceral, deep-seated reaction to the ear candy and delicious cacophony of sound that emanates from each song and, collectively, from the album. Yes, there’s a familiarity to the sound but there’s also a distinct and divergent evolution.

The end result is Bright Moments.

Overexposed

Lightning

Matt & Kim - Overexposed - Lightning (2012)

Did I mention how flippin’ fantastic this album is?

“…Let’s wake the world
And sing them back to sleep
But people don’t listen
So we’ll scream and shout
As if these words are cheap

Like a picture
I was overexposed
Believe me
I still see it with my eyes closed…

Lyrics.

Matt & Kim have produced another outstanding album. I’ve been jamming to it a ton since it dropped (October 2).

I highly, highly recommend buying the album. Purchase it here.

They’re coming to a town near you so keep an eye and ear out. It’s a must see show if you haven’t caught them live. Tour dates.

Only You

Other Worlds

Taken By Trees - Only You - Other Worlds (2012)

Delightful. Perfect this Monday eve. Love that calypso feel and Victoria Bergsman’s soothing vocals.

Captivating. Subtly bobbing head for the rest of the evening…

Taken by Trees is the solo project of Victoria Bergsman, former lead singer for The Concretes. If you’re trying to place that voice, she was featured in Peter Bjorn and John’s hit ”Young Folks”.

I‘m absolutely loving her latest ‘Other Worlds’. It drops tomorrow (October 2). Fans of Camera Obscura, El Perro del Mar and, of course, The Concretes will really dig this offering.

Follow her on Tumblr for news, videos, to stream (via soundcloud) and for info on her Fall tour with Jens Lenkman (starts tonight - October 1).

Grizzly Bear - Yet Again - Shields (2012)

Been to listening to a ton of Grizzly Bear as of late.

“…Take score, even playing fields this game
I know when all’s said we’re the same
If I could I would leave it all be
No chance to move backwards and see

Take it all in stride
Speak, don’t confide
We barely had a case
It’s done before we try
Stop and end by night
A desert in your face…”

Lyrics.

Shields is fantastic (dropped Sept. 17). I recommend picking it up. Here.

Sigur Rós - Ekki múkk (music video) - Valtari (2012)

As far as music videos go, Sigur Rós - ‘Ekki múkk’ is a work of art. Beautiful.

Sigur Rós ‘Valtari’ Mystery Film Experiment: Ekki múkk by Nick Abrahams

A fantastic idea: “sigur rós have given a dozen film makers the same modest budget and asked them to create whatever comes into their head when they listen to songs from the band’s new album valtari. the idea is to bypass the usual artistic approval process and allow people utmost creative freedom.”

Valtari is available to purchase here.

I’m absolutely addicted to it. Listened to it the better part of today. Great taste as usual, Lady :)
