Sunday
Yuck
Yuck (Deluxe Version)

Yuck - Sunday - Yuck (2011)

Another favorite ‘Sunday’ song. The vocals. The songwriting. That melodic guitar riff that perfectly accompanies…

Just fantastic.

Cold winter months, and I’m thinking of you
how you’re not with me
I used to choreograph the animals in the sea…

Yuck.

With The World At My Feet
Big Deal
Lights Out

Big Deal - With The World At My Feet - Lights Out (2011)

Soaking myself in this album. Delightful tune.

Wonderful company on this rainy Saturday afternoon and evening.

With the world at my feet and the stars in my reach but you won’t be with me, you won’t be with me. I was waiting for you. Was waiting. I was sleeping. You been changing. You don’t have to say it’s done. I know, I know. You don’t have to say it’s done. I know, I know. With the world at my feet and the stars in my reach but you won’t be with me. You won’t be with me…”

Mmmm, fuzzalicious…

From a previous post:

Big Deal are the duo of Kacey Underwood and Alice Costelloe. And Lights Out, they’re debut album, is pretty much fantastic. The duo complement each other perfectly. Such a fresh and natural sound, not over produced and delightfully raw.

I highly recommend the album.

If I Run
Voxhaul Broadcast
Timing Is Everything

Voxhaul Broadcast - If I Run - Timing Is Everything (2011)

Tunes on random and one of my favorite songs drops. Love that.

This never, ever gets old.

Aces. Just discovered it played prominently in The Lucky One. New found life for a brilliant song and lots of love to Voxhaul Broadcast.

Timing Is Everything and the recently released Frozen Beach EP are both fantastic. I highly recommend both. Purchase their albums and EPs here.

Without A Doubt.

Indeed. Particularly this afternoon ;)

Big Deal - Homework - Lights Out (2011)

Enveloping myself in this album. Lovely tune.

The perfect accessory on this hushed Sunday afternoon.

It feels like autumn.

Human Error
We Were Promised Jetpacks
In the Pit of the Stomach

We Were Promised Jetpacks - Human Error - In the Pit of the Stomach (2011)

We Were Promised Jetpacks accompanying my Saturday. Perfectly paced and in keeping with my temperament.

“If I was a writer, I’d write my opinions
And save them for later
Just to see how wrong I could be

If I was a painter, I’d paint all my rainbows
In different colors, or probably just black and grey

If I was a writer, I’d write my opinions
And send them a letter
Just to see they listen to me and I say

Trial and error, I’m sure I’ve been here before
I’m drowning in humans, I’m sure I’ve been here before…”

Simple Girl
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.
It's A Corporate World

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. - Simple Girl - It’s A Corporate World (2011)

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. this afternoon. I need to listen to this album more — definitely underplayed. Quite pleasant and enjoyable.

“…She’s a simple girl
and she’s got simple feelings.
No one ever let her know that she could get it out her heart, now.”

Holing Out
Yuck
Yuck (Deluxe Version)

Yuck - Holing Out - Yuck (2011)

I’ve got a case of the Friday afternoons… Yuck tiding me over.

Fantastic, guitar-thrashing, Friday afternoon remedy.

“…All the times with you, wake me up tomorrow
And if my skull is empty, I’m holing out for you…”

Lyrics.

Buy ‘Yuck’.

Lost In My Mind
The Head And The Heart
The Head And The Heart

The Head And The Heart - Lost In My Mind - The Head And The Heart (2011)

Long day… Disposition calls for The Head And The Heart. Such a delightful album. I highly recommend checking it out.

Wonderfully written bio by Heather Browne on their website:

So many decisions in life and in the music we love can come down to a critical tug between the logic in our heads and the hot red blood beating through our hearts. Seattle’s The Head and the Heart live authentically in that crux, finding joy and beauty wedged there. Their music pulses effervescently—both explosively danceable and intuitively intelligent. With Americana roots and strong vocal harmonics that swell like a river, this band finds its anchor in solid songwriting that has even the jaded humming along by the second listen…”

Perfectly put.

The Transubstantiationalist
Pursesnatchers
A Pattern Language

Pursesnatchers - The Transubstantiationalist - A Pattern Language (2011)

Pursesnatchers this afternoon. A favorite song and album.

Hits me right in the gut every time. Enough said.

Via Uninhabitable Mansions: “Pursesnatchers began as a home-recording project of Doug Marvin, formerly of Dirty on Purpose, with help from his wife Annie Hart, of Au Revoir Simone. The songs are upbeat and poppy, with lots of analog fuzz left in for realness’ sake. Think Yo la Tengo doing America covers. The band eventually expanded to include old friends Jared Barron and Harold Liu, and the quartet began playing out and around Brooklyn…”

Brilliant all around.

Too Insistent
The Dø
Both Ways Open Jaws

The Dø - Too Insistent - Both Ways Open Jaws (2011)

The Dø for the last couple of hours. Goodness gracious I’m digging this album.

LOVE this song.

It’s tough to place a label on this French/Finnish duo. Indie Pop(ish) or Indie Folk(ish) may fit the bill but there’s an experimental tint to their tunes that make them quite unique and separate from any one genre or “sound”.

The band is Olivia Merilahti (singer and musician) and Dan Levy (multi-instrumentalist) — with the backing of several different drummers whilst on stage.

Check ‘em out. Really, really diggin’ them! That’s two “reallys”.

The Magic
Joan As Police Woman
The Deep Field

Joan As Police Woman - The Magic - The Deep Field (2011)

This. Tune. Equals. Perfect.

Joan As Police Woman for the remainder of this day and into the evening. Highly recommend all her albums (To Survive, Real Life, The Deep Field).

Joan As Police Woman (Joan Wasser) gets me…

Love Is A Lazerquest
Arctic Monkeys
Suck It And See

Arctic Monkeys - Love Is A Lazerquest - Suck It And See (2011)

Busily, frantically going about my work when this beautiful tune stopped me in my tracks. Stopped and listened to it in its entirety.

Then back to busily, frantically going about my work…

I love it when that happens. Delightful song.

Do you still feel younger than you thought you would by now
Or, darling, have you started feeling old yet
Don’t worry, I’m sure that you’re still breaking hearts
With the efficiency that only youth can harness
And do you still think love is a Laserquest
Or do you take it all more seriously
I’ve tried to ask you this in some daydreams that I’ve had
But you’re always busy being make-believe
And do you look into the mirror to remind yourself you’re there
Or have somebody’s good-night kisses got that covered
When I’m not being honest, I’ll pretend that you were just some lover…

The Breakup
The Rural Alberta Advantage
Departing

The Rural Alberta Advantage - The Breakup - Departing (2011)

I will never tire of The RAA. 1,550+ listens and counting

I just realized this morning: That’s spread between two albums and a single. That’s a ton of listens per song.

To me, their tunes stand the test of time and heavy rotation. A true indication of great albums and a great band.

Listened to them all morning long… Brilliant way to start the day and week.

The Easy Confidence
Quiet Company
We Are All Where We Belong

Quiet Company - The Easy Confidence (What I Would Say To You Now) - We Are All Where We Belong (2011)

Really dig Taylor Muse’s perfectly, imperfect shrieking vocals as the song develops towards crescendo.

“…Oh my soul! Oh, my soul is tired, but I’ve got an itch to scratch, I’ve got a stone to throw, and I want to sink my teeth into your hollow bones.

I’ve got a bone to pick, and I want to pick it clean! Oh, the prodigal son and his shameful disbelief…”
