The Dø - Slippery Slope - Both Ways Open Jaws (2012)

The Dø sound a bit like M.I.A. from time to time. Case in point…

Previous Post: The Dø is French/Finnish duo Olivia Merilahti (singer and musician) and Dan Levy (multi-instrumentalist) — with the backing of several different drummers whilst on stage.

For much of the album, Olivia Merilahti vocals remind me of Karin Dreijer Andersson — her early days whilst with The Knife (not so much as Fever Ray). The instrumentation incorporates a wide gamut of song styling — some tunes are fairly sparse with naked but rich vocals while others include heavy percussion, sampling and lavish harmonies.

Both Ways Open Jaws is an eclectic mix of tunes that combine to form a finely balanced Indie Pop(ish) album with an experimental tint.

I highly recommend checking out The Dø.
